La mañana

Llega el sol tímidamente
Sobre la casa dormida,
Y le da la bienvenida
Un canario, alegremente.
Se estremecen levemente
Las glicinas azuladas,
Mientras se lava la cara
Un gato, tranquilamente.
 
Carga una hormiga a estribor
Un palito de la parra,
Y otra que vuelve se para
Para infundirle valor.
Lima un grillo aburridor
Escondido en la rejilla,
Y en el asta de una silla
Flamea un repasador.
 
En la casa, todavía
No hay mucha gente despierta,
Mas llega de la pileta
Una dulce melodía.
Canta el agua su alegría
En la ropa enjabonada,
Y sobre ella, encorvada
Se encuentra doña María.

The sun comes timidly
Over the sleeping house,
And welcomes it
A canary, cheerfully.
The blue wisteria
The blue wisteria,
As he washes his face
A cat, quietly.
 
Carrying an ant to starboard
A stick from the vine,
And another returning one stops
To infuse him with courage.
Limes a boring cricket
Hiding in the grate,
And on the shaft of a chair
Flames a dishtowel.
 
In the house, still
Not many people awake,
But from the pool comes
A sweet melody.
The water sings its joy
In the lathered clothes,
And on it, bent over
Lies Doña María.
