Chirusa

Chirusa, the prettiest of the pebetas,
wove her loves with a Don Juan;
he, with kind and affectionate words,
promised to love her with mad eagerness.
Confident of his promises, one morning
tied up all her clothes and eloped;
Blinded by luxury she followed the caravan.
and the soul of the suburb thus cried out:

Don't leave your old folks!
Careful, Chirusa;
luxury is a demon
that causes perdition,
and when you are very lonely
without a helping hand
you will weep for sorrow
lying in a corner.

Sick of life, without a consolation,
overcome forever by pain,
she thought of her old people that she left one day
in the little white house where she was born.
The wind brought back sweet memories,
passages of her life full of sunshine;
and the soul of the suburb, to his room,
like a distant voice reminded her...
