Destellos

To drown deep sorrows that I have,
that kill me and won't go away,
I raise trembling in my hands
this glass of blond champagne.
I invite you to drink with me
that drinking will make you forget
the flashes of lost loves
that often cloud the eyes of weeping.

I have known other times to drink
in the fountain of her red lips
and the light of her languid eyes
many a night of love intoxicated me.
But, friends, she forgot me
and in the fine crystal of this glass
I seem to see the mouth
that a thousand times my mouth kissed.

In my soul there remain glimpses
of that love that will never go away
because, try as I might, I can not
that light that burns me to extinguish.
