9 October 1985: Tango Argentino opens on Broadway

On 9 October 1985, Tango Argentino opened at the Mark Hellinger Theatre, just off Broadway on 51st Street. One set, the Sexteto Mayor, and neighbourhood dancers whose average age was 42. It ran almost six months, 199 performances, and New York signed up for tango classes. Juan Carlos Copes and María Nieves were in the cast.
