20 April 1918: Mi noche triste reaches the stage
On 20 April 1918 the play "Los dientes del perro" opened at the Teatro Esmeralda (later the Maipo). In its cabaret scene, with Firpo's orchestra, Manolita Poli sang "Mi noche triste", by Castriota and Pascual Contursi. The applause marked the start of the tango-canción.
