The Cabeceo

We've caught your eye across the milonga. Like any good tango, this starts with consent — nothing optional runs until you say so. What we store.

Rosa Ortega, Fabián Belmonte, Roxana Belmonte · 25 min · 0 chapters

Rosa Ortega interviews Fabián Belmonte and his dance partner on Radio Voces Latinas (CHHA 1610 AM, Toronto) in a Valentine's Day 2016 special. Fabián describes how tango arrived with the immigrants to the Río de la Plata, his own path learning the bandoneón alongside his bandoneonist father, and how, once in Canada, they founded the country's first tango school in the mid-1980s and later the Toronto Tango festival. The conversation is interspersed with recordings of his partner's mother singing with guitarist Roberto Grela, and one of Fabián's father, Julio Belmonte, leading his own orchestra.
