About the Archive

The Archive is tango’s history inside TangoTube: who the milongueros, maestros and voices of Argentine tango were, what they said, and where you can watch them. It holds 0 published records, 0 dated entries, 146 sources and 0 transcribed conversations, and it grows as each new record is checked.

Where the facts come from

Every fact names its source: a biography, an obituary, an encyclopedia, a book, the press, or an interview. We link to sources rather than copy them, keep quotes short, and say who said them. When a claim comes from someone speaking in a video, it links to the second they said it. Research and transcription are done with the help of software, offline; nothing it produces reaches this site on its own.

Interviews are transcribed in the language they were spoken and translated into Spanish or English. Each transcript has a summary and chapters, so you can jump to the moment that matters.

How it is checked

Nothing shows until a person has read it and accepted it. A record appears on a dancer’s page only once it is published, and every date, quote and link inside it is accepted on its own.

• What someone says about themselves is shown as their own words, linked to the moment, until a written source agrees.
• When sources disagree, we say so under “accounts differ”, rather than choose silently.
• A date is shown as precisely as it is known: a year stays a year.
• We say “Follow” only for dancers confirmed living, “Remember” only when a reliable source confirms a death, and otherwise “Watch them on TangoTube”.

Credits and rights

Historical footage is credited to the channel that published it: “Video: <channel> (YouTube).” Full transcripts of other people’s interviews appear only once the channel has agreed; until then we show the summary, the chapters and short quotes that open the video.
