Geraldine y Mario dancing to Alfredo de Angelis tango-vals "Mi Novia De Ayer" at the Tandawazi 2013 festival of Dance, Music & Martial Arts - http://www.tandawazi.co.ke - at the Goethe-Institut in Nairobi, Kenya. Mario arrived to Nairobi in 2010 and had found that there was no Tango there... very strange, given the African roots of this beautiful traditional dance, born in the Río de la Plata region, between the port cities of Buenos Aires in Argentina and Montevideo in Uruguay -- historians say "tango is black music that has no drums" and the word "tango" itself comes from the African Ki-Kongo word for "moving in time to a beat". It did not take very long, thanks to friends seduced into wanting to learn and experience this intriguing dance, for the non-profit Patamango Association - http://patamango.com - to be formed, offering regular classes as well as a weekly community "Milonga" for dancing tango socially... and, to date, this Milonga is actually still the only one such regular Milonga in all of sub-Saharan Africa!
