Teaching teachers in tango - The rise of systematic instruction for tango teachers - Melina Sedó

However, behind the scenes, there's a whole hidden story of who these teachers are, and how they actually became the tango teachers they are today, with all the skills and knowledge they had to gather themselves to get to this point - and, how their ideas kept and keep evolving over time, of course. Fortunately, I found the perfect person to guide us into this not-so obvious reality behind how tango teachers (have) come to be. Melina Sedó has been teaching for over two decades with her partner Detlef and when they started, they found that there literally wasn't anything structural available to guide them, so they had to find out everything by themselves and build their own methodology from the ground up. In this video, Melina talks about the lack of resources in the past and the process of trial and error, but what makes this video so special is that she and her partner actually went on to build courses for tango teachers, in an attempt to create the type of structural foundation that they themselves wish they had had, twenty years ago. In essence, Melina explains how much people can benefit from a type of teacher training that actually makes sense, not only for people who are already teachers or aspire to become teachers, but also anyone who really wants to understand (social dance) tango on a deep level. It's also very motivating and gratifying for her and her partner to work with people who have that type of curiosity about tango. And personally, I'm quite happy that programs like this exist, since it nurtures our tango world in all the right ways.
